L’Ile Rousse (and HDR photography)

As regular readers of my blog will know the beautiful Mediterranean island of Corsica is one of my favourite places and the laid back, pretty, seaside town of L’Ile Rousse is one of my favourite towns.

This week’s travel snap is of a charming backstreet just a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach; the perfect place to find a great restaurant, souvenir or ice cream after a hard day’s sunbathing!

As with last week’s snap this is an HDR image but this time I’ve chosen to go for a less subtle but what I hope is a more artistic approach. Again I’d really value your feedback – good or bad, as I know HDR photography is not everyone’s cup of tea! See the unaltered and uncropped original on Flickr. Software used was Photomatix Pro.

If anyone would like to find out more about HDR photography why not join me and the twitter friends I’ve made at ‘togchat’. Held every Wednesday at 8am and 8pm BST simply check out the tweets using #togchat. If you want to join the chat simply add #togchat to your tweets. There’s a different photographic theme each week and next week, Wednesday 2nd May, is HDR photography. You can also find the group on Flickr and submit photos for critique and questions about HDR photography there too.

I think you were definitely successful in your artistic approach. The ordinary photo was transformed into what looks like a painting. I’m a fan of HDR Photography

Thanks. Good to hear you like it. It’s been really interesting reading people’s diferent points of view.

It is more a painting than a photo :-)

Hi Kat, I have to say I like my HDR a bit more natural but its a great composition and I really liked some of your other HDR shots. I’ve been playing about with HDR for a while and you do see some really strange ones (lots of halos and apocalyptic skies) which give the technique a bad name, but done well I think it can make beautiful photos. Will try and join in with #togchat tomorrow!

Hi Kat, I know I already said this in a Tweet but wanted to support you here…. To me (totally an untrained eye), the HDR is more Artistic and worthy of framing. I would enjoy looking through an album with photos similar to the original but I would hang the HDR shot in my home! Love it!!

Thank you so much. That really means a lot to me. I hope I will be able to share many more images with you that you like as much.

I love this HDR type and will do some investigating myself as I would like to do this with some of my pics too – it does make it look more artistic and some photos lend themselves to that so yes Kat, you get my thumbs up!

      Thanks Cynthia. Good to know.

I love the original but there is definately a place for the altered type. It’s the type of picture i would pick up 7 frame as a souvenir of my travels.

      Thank you – that’s a lovely comment! :-D

I won’t say I dislike it. But I will say that I’ve grown a bit tired of HDR over the past few years. Nothing personal. ;)

I know a few people think that but I only first heard of it a fairly recently! So it is still rather new to me. Thanks for your honesty, really appreciate it. I’m sure I’ve said this before but wouldn’t it be a boring world if we all liked the same things! :-)

I don’t typically like HDR but I think it’s because it’s too new still, meaning that too many people are using it without having a clue what they are doing. With that said, yours is exactly what I think HDR should be, and it’s beautiufl.

Thank you Russell. Glad you like it (not that I have a clue what I am doing with it yet myself!)

I have to say Kat that I prefer the original image but then I didn’t know it was possible to do this kind of thing. It’s an interesting effect though and one to play about with.
(I’m still trying to organise myself on Pinterest so don’t expect to see my new technology any time soon. I’m better at observing)

I hope you go there one day. Corsica really is the most beautiful of islands.
