In the last few weeks it seems that my feet have barely touched the ground and one thing that has kept me busy is taking video footage for a new series on Travel With Kat, The World in 60 Seconds. This YouTube playlist will feature bite sized videos from my travels both on and off the well-trodden path. Subscribe to Travel With Kat on You tube to be the first to see new videos as they are added.
St Kitts in 60 Seconds
What better place to kick off the series then with the lovely little Caribbean island of St Kitts.
This was my first visit to the Caribbean and St Kitts certainly lived up to all my expectations and more. What makes this particularly island so special is that it feels so undiscovered. This really is the unspoilt Caribbean with deserted sandy beaches, fresh seafood in abundance, electric blue waters and glasses overflowing with rum punch, not to mention my new favourite drink, Ting with or without a Sting – the Ting is a refreshing grapefruit drink (and I didn’t even think I liked grapefruit) while the Sting is of course a generous measure of St Kitts rum – all to be enjoyed with a laid-back reggae rhythm backing track.
If you are after something a little more lively check out The Dock at Timothy Beach Resort, on a Sunday evening where you can dance into the early hours to a reggae band by the beach. And you’ll find plenty of sun worshippers, beach bars and watersports on Reggae Beach. But for much of the rest of the island you’ll have this paradise pretty much all to yourself.
Filming Locations for St Kitts in 60 Seconds
If you’d like to know more about the locations featured in this video, keep an eye out for my forthcoming posts from St Kitts and check out the links below.
Arthur’s Restaurant by Golden Lemon Inn where we dined on delicious lobsters while gazing at the sea just a few feet away.
Basseterre Saturday morning market, a fabulous place to wander and photograph. Everyone was extremely welcoming and happy to chat.
Blue Water Safaris took us on a fabulous high-speed catamaran crossing to the neighbouring island of St Nevis. We stopped for snorkeling along the way in Shitern Bay, cocktails flowing throughout the trip.
Caribelle Batik & Rainforest Bar showed us some stunning batiks and I really loved the bar in the rainforest. The gardens, pictured above, are stunning.
Ital Creations at Fari Organic Farm is THE place to go to on St Kitts for fabulous vegetarian and vegan food. Everyone enjoyed it, meat eaters included.|i loved their moringa smoothies too.
Ocean Terrace Inn is a stylish hotel, just a short walk from the capital Basseterre, which happens to sell my favourite rum punch. A lot of research went into finding that out for you.
Ottley’s Plantation Inn is an elegant former colonial mansion, now a luxury hotel. I had a superb massage here with a view out over the rainforest. Bliss.
Tangerine Tours while I didn’t go on one of their tours, I did meet Christian, a great character, whom I’m sure is an excellent and amusing guide.
The Gallery Cafe is a wonderful art gallery and cafe and one of my favourite places on the island. I loved the atmosphere here and they serve wonderful cakes and light bites.
Timothy Beach Resort is self-catering complex of spacious apartments by a beautiful Caribbean beach, pictured at the start of the video.
St Kitts Watersports offer kayaking, jet-skiing and a host of other watersports on Reggae Beach (pictured above). There’s a colourful bar here too serving great food too, aptly named Reggae Beach Bar.
Salt Plage Marina Bar is a shabby chic bar serving delectable cocktails and food right by the water’s edge in the beautiful bay. It was named by Condé Nast Traveller as one of the Top 8 Beachside Cafes in the World.
Sky Safari Tours took us on a real adventure zip-lining through the rainforest. We also had a wonderful hike through the forest with expert guide O’Neill.
Thank you all for such a superb week. I can’t think how it could have been better. I’ve made many memories to treasure and I’m sure I’ll return one day.
