There is just a few days left to enter this year’s Capture the Colour photography competition run by Travel Supermarket. Thank you to Suzanne from The Travelbunny, Katherine from Travel the World, and Janice and George from Sand in my Suitcase for nominating me. Do check out their blogs for some great entries. I really enjoyed joining in last year so once again here is my collection of photographs representing red, blue, green, yellow and white.
Capture the colour
A red London bus
This shot was taken on the same evening as my ‘White’ entry last year. Living in the south of England it was rare to see snow, that is up until a few years ago. It seems to be coming a regular thing now, throwing us into chaos each year!
Balloons released into the blue sky in the south of England
This was a charity fund-raiser where people sponsored a balloon to see how far it would travel. The one that went the furthest and was sent back in the post won a prize. I had great fun waiting for the postman to deliver the tags that were sent back. Out of the 300 released only 7 came back but you could plot them in a straight line across Europe, the furthest almost reaching the German/Austrian border. Due to environmental concerns we never did do this again but what a sight it was to see!
Green algae covered crocodile in The Gambia
This was taken at the Katchikally crocodile pool. The waters are said to be beneficial for women wishing to conceive and the crocs are so tame that people actually stroke them. If you don’t believe me, read my post Go Wild in West Africa.
A yellow sunset walk also in The Gambia
Taken on Kotu Beach where beautiful sunsets are regularly seen.
The white sands of Calvi in Corsica
Corsica is a real favourite of mine, the beaches are lovely and the water so clear and blue. I had to get up pretty early for this shot; the water is so still at this time in the morning and I had the beach to myself (apart from one backpacker who was still asleep in the sand just behind me!).
I’d like to nominate Angela from Chasing the Unexpected, Giulia from Travel Reportage, James from Escaping Abroad, Jennifer from My Sardinian Life and Dani and Jess from Globetrotter Girls. Here’s a link to the T&C’s for anyone who would like to enter but hurry, the deadline is 9th October. Sorry for the short notice! Good luck everyone!

Really beautiful photo of balloons.
Can I use this photo as my telegram logo?
Yes, that’s fine and thank yu for asking.
Lovely set of photos, the balloon shot is just beautiful!
Thanks Becky. That’s one of my favourites too and not just as a photo in itself but the memories of what that day was all about.
Stunning images. I love how photography makes you look at everyday life in different ways
Thanks Cristina and yes, photography can certainly do that.
Beautiful selections of photos, Kathryn! But I’m so so in love with the balloon shot! Simply stunning.
Thanks Marisol. It seems everyone has a different favourite, although the balloons are one of mine too.
Beautiful photos Kat! Love them all – especially the alligator! If I can remember next year I’ll be on the lookout for this photo contest! Good luck my friend! Deborah
Thanks Deborah. What a shame you didn’t know about it in time to enter. I think it was running for quite a while before I picked up on it. Do look out for it again next years I’m sure there will be another. All the best, Kat.
So glad you entered! Can’t believe that GREEN crocodile – awesome photo…
Thank you. I always enjoy entering these so thanks so much for the nomination. Happy travels, Kat.
Great photos Kat! The red bus looks like a Christmas card.
Thanks Sarah. Loved your entry too, especially green.
They’re all amazing shots Kat – good luck!
Thank you and thanks for nominating me! Love your entry too. Now I must check out your knobs and knockers!
These are gorgeous. I love the sunset in Gambia…and I so need to go there! Good luck!
Thanks Corinne 🙂
Lovely choices Kathryn, good luck!
Thanks Tina. Just had a look at your entry – absolutely stunning! Best of luck to you too.
Lovely pictures. I loved the sunset and balloon pictures. Good luck with the contest!
Thank you Anu. I’m quite sure I don’t stand a chance of winning but it is fun taking part.
True Kathryn. It’s nice to see the colors from different people’s perspective…I enjoyed going through a lot of other participants pictures too, the way they’ve perceived the colors and represented them 🙂
Love the sunset 🙂
Thanks Jo. Not visited your blog for ages. I really must pop by sometime very soon! 🙂
Fabulous! Good luck! 🙂
Thank you Jessica 🙂
These photos are simply stunning, Kat!
Thank you, that’s very kind of you Jessica.
Great set of photos. The London Bus is an all great icon. Interesting water body where women go to conceive. I don’t I think I will be able to enter it even if the crocs are tame.
Thanks Shalu. London in the snow is rather magical, although it did stop the buses completely a couple of years ago.
I love all of them! If I had to pick, red would be my favorite. I think I’m ready for Christmas!
Thanks Katherine and thank you for nominating me too. Christmas still seems some way away but no doubt it will be here before we know! I hoping to get to London again to photograph more of the Christmas lights this year. Always so pretty.
very nice pics, esp the one with red london bus!
Thank you, that is one of my favourites too.
Love, love, love that croc. We’re in Florida right now, and I saw a Red-bellied turtle with his shell covered in green algae emerging from the swampy river…gave me the same feeling. Plenty of alligators around too. Happy travels!
Thanks Tamara and to you 🙂
Brilliant shots Kat. Love the croc and the balloons. Good luck 🙂
Thanks Madhu and to you too 🙂
Love, love, love the balloons!! And thank you for the mention. I’m not sure I will have to time to submit my photos as I am off to the center of Sardinia tomorrow and Ill be there all weekend!! I can’t wait. Good luck!
Hi Jennifer, I realise it is rather late notice! It’s a shame though as I would have loved to see your choices.
I visited Sardinia for the first time recently and have lots to blog about – so wonderful! Sadly I was on a mad dash around the island visiting hotels with no time to catch our breath, otherwise I would have tried to hook up with you and Angela (Chasing the Unexpected).
Hopefully I be back for a more leisurely visit one day.
Lovely post! Especially like the red bus, but then I love anything about London 🙂 Good luck with your entry. Cheers
Thank you! 🙂
