Two women, one motorhome, and the open road – what could possibly go wrong?
Three wonderful reasons to visit Vancouver, the gateway city to British Columbia
Beautiful green parks, wonderful wildlife on your doorstep, a fabulous food and drink scene, colourful markets - there are so many reasons to visit Vancouver. Having made a fleeting stop there last year, I had many reasons to return. Two things that I had not had a...
Arts and crafts in the mountain town of Breckenridge
Meeting locals, asking their advice, chatting with craftsmen and women and artisan food and wine producers, not to mention craft beer brewers, is one of my favourite aspects of travelling. I love stumbling across communities where such businesses thrive from a glass...

Excitement is mounting in the Travel With Kat household as I'm getting ready for my next big adventure - two weeks with my mate Sara from Travel Continuum, driving an RV around British Columbia, starting in the beautiful city of Vancouver. Be sure to follow me on your...
Discovering Canada’s wild side at Whistler
Today I’d like to share a guest post from freelance travel writer and photographer, Johanna Read. Last year I visited Canada for the first time and discovered two wonderful cities surrounded by nature, Victoria and Vancouver. Here Johanna tells us more about British Columbia’s wonderful wildlife. Next stop, Whistler.
Wildlife Photography Tips | The Great Bear Rainforest
My first view of the Great Bear Rainforest, the last great expanse of temperate rainforest in the world, was through the window of a float plane. The excitement, mingled with a touch of nervousness about the flight, was palpable. Would we see any bears? Would we see any cubs? Would we be able to capture the photos we longed for?
Having spent a day with wildlife photographer, David Plummer, I picked up some great tips ready for my trip to Canada. And I’d like to share them with you.
Beyond Cancun: 5 Cities in Mexico Begging to be Discovered
When most people think of Mexico they envision the white sand beaches of the Mayan Riviera or the Pacific beach towns such as Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco. However, it could be argued that these parts of Mexico have done so much to lure tourists in that they have lost a great deal of the unique culture that symbolizes the country. While these regions definitely have their charms, Mexico is a big country and offers much more to be discovered.
The Grizzly Bears of Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest
We’ve be looking for hours, or so it seems, staring intently at the grass-like sedge that grows along the banks. Drifting along on the water with just the occasional slosh from the oars, we pass trees clad in wispy moss, part of the ancient forests of cedars and spruce that surround us. Low clouds creep around the upper slopes of the tree covered cliff-faces. A light rain is falling but our cameras are at the ready. And then I see them, two round fluffy brown ears, peeping up from behind the sedge. In perfect unison two of us point at the same spot on the bank and softly exclaim “Bear!”
Cities on the edge of Nature – Vancouver, British Columbia
Vancouver on the west coast of Canada is said to be one of the best places in the world to live. It has a stunning backdrop of the snow-capped Olympus Mountains and the impressive 400 hectare Stanley Park as well as the Salish Sea, a popular whale-watching location, all on its doorstep. Like Victoria, Vancouver is certainly another wonderful city on the edge of nature.
Where and what to eat in Victoria, British Columbia
Giant waffles, served with bacon, berries and lashings of maple syrup. Just the thought of it now has me nearly dribbling over my laptop (sorry). Sadly I had food envy as my eggs faded in comparison to the delight on a plate that my fellow blogger was devouring. A week of eating like this though would really flummox my fight against the pounds. The food in Canada, however, was so very good throughout that the battle was lost before it had begun. And I indulged… a lot.
Cities on the edge of nature – Victoria, British Columbia
My adventures in Canada began in Victoria where I found that there’s so much more than whale watching in this welcoming city. Find out more, enjoy my photos and read my top tips for responsible whale watching.
Introducing spring watch in British Columbia and the Great Bear Rainforest
I’ll soon be checking into my hotel near Heathrow in readiness to make my first journey across the pond to North America. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited about a forthcoming trip. For just over one week I’ll be getting to know British Columbia on the west coast of Canada, including visiting two wonderful cities, Victoria and Vancouver, which both lie on the doorstep of some of the most spectacular natural beauty and the Great Bear Rainforest.
