I don’t think there is any better way to get to know a local culture than by learning about the local food scene be that in Italy or in Ireland, Mexico or the Maldives. This also holds true in places where the culture has grown out of a blending of many different countries, even continents as immigrants moved around the world taking their cultural traditions and of course, cuisines, with them.
Wherever I travel I’m always on the look out for local cookery lessons or food tours so when Miami Culinary Tours offered to give one of my readers a pair of free tickets to one of their tours I had to say yes please on your behalf.
The winner will be able to choose between the following two tasty tours taken with a local guide.
South Beach Food Tour
Visiting 7 or 8 different places for tastings you’ll enjoy the best cuisine from Miami’s melting pot – tuck into handmade Columbian empanada, savour the taste of old Havana with a range of classic Cuban dishes and from a third generation Argentinian bakery enjoy “a delicate pillow of shredded chicken with spices folded into the family’s famous buttery, flaky dough with avocado and cilantro sauce”. Oh boy! All this and more followed by a sweet treat from a historic Jewish delicatessen and last but not least, from an award-winning Italian gelateria, the best gelato in town!
On your way, you’ll also learn about the dramatic, inspiring history and see the unique architecture of the Art Deco district. Sounds good to me!
Little Havana Food Tour
Alternatively, on the Little Havana tour discover one of Miami’s oldest neighbourhoods, visiting family run restaurants to get the story behind the food while you taste the best Cuban cuisine the area has to offer, listen to traditional music and learn about the community’s spiritual beliefs. Designed for both locals and visitors alike wanting to learn about the area’s history and culture while tasting Cuban foods that have been prepared by the same families from recipes handed down through the generations.

I am so excited to win this Miami food tour! I do chocolate tours in Washington, DC so this will be especially exciting! Does anyone know of a lovely B&B in Miami? Thank you, Kat, for offering this special adventure!
That’s great Deirdre. Hope you have a lovely time and I look forward hearing all about it. Afraid I can’t help you with the B&B.
I knew your were in the tourism industry but had no idea you ran chocolate tours! Now I need to get myself over to Washington as well as Miami! 🙂
They sound fun. Now to arrange a trip to Miami!!
Ooh! i Just checked out your post about Salon du Chocolat – sounds fantastic! Thanks for leaving the link here. You have some great giveaways.
If only I Iived a bit closer to Miami. Argentine chicken followed by Italian gelato on the South Beach Food Tour sounds fantastic!
I know! I’d love to go on them both.
Both sound fab! I’m planning on being in Miami in April so fingers crossed.
They do indeed! And I’m very envious of you going to Miami. It sounds a really lively and interesting place… Cuban food and music, Art Deco architecture, great weather and beaches…
