When I stumbled across a website that enabled you to make your own digital travel magazine, I couldn’t wait to try it out. And so, as a replacement of my quarterly newsletter, I bring you ‘TRAVEL with Kat’ … the magazine!
I had great fun designing it and writing some new articles from Tuscany and The Gambia, recipes, news and reviews plus I’ve included highlights from my recent travels and a selection of my favourite photographs. I also feature a travel and nature photographer I admire, Greg Vaughn, and there’s a great article from cruise expert, Gary Bembridge. I’d love for you to take a peak and give me your feedback, good and bad.
The next issue will be out in October and will include highlights from my forthcoming travels to southern France and the Greek island of Santorini. If any travel bloggers, print journalists or photographers would like to contribute in any way please do get in touch. Likewise, if you have any travel related news. You can contact me at [email protected].

Hi Kat, I’ve finally managed to find time to look through your magazine – it’s been sitting patiently in my inbox until such a moment. I absolutely love it! The photos are gorgeous and even though I’ve already read some of the articles, I think it’s a far more appealing way of sharing the best of your posts with readers who don’t want emails each time you publish. I also like the fact that you’ve included other writers and photographers as well as a mix of content like recipes and book reviews. I definitely think this has got legs, especially as the quality of content and presentation is so high. It looks extremely professional.
I notice that RestlessJo has already volunteered to contribute about the Algarve but if there’s room for another on your list, I’d be delighted to guest post about Portugal – we can decide what aspect when I get closer to the top of the list đŸ˜‰
Well done!
Thanks Julie. I really enjoyed producing it and I’d love to feature an article from you, as well as Jo in a future edition. I’m keeping a list of everyone who has expressed an interest and I’ll email you all shortly.
Firstly, this digital magazine idea is awesome! But what is even better is the quality that you have included in this feature. All too often folks around the world have ideas about implementing new features but fail to include the required quality to really make it stand out from the crowd, but I really feel that you have achieved this with this publication.
I am looking forward to browsing through this in a little more detail over the weekend with my cup of coffee because it looks like a great read!
Kudos to you for making this happen and good luck with the future editions!
Thanks Chris. That is very kind of you. I’m lucky I come from a design and photography background long before I ever started writing.
Hi Kat đŸ™‚
This is an exciting venture for you. I have exactly the same problem with it as I do with my Inbox- never enough time to just relax and read. But I like the content. Especially enjoyed the article on Athens. I was there all too briefly on an afternoon when I managed to leave my handbag at the Acropolis. It contained my passport and we were flying home that afternoon so it wasn’t an afternoon I’ll forget in a hurry! But I’d love to go back, with a little less stress đŸ™‚
Are you open to guest contributions, Kat? I expect I could manage to make the Algarve look attractive.
Yes, I will be accepting contributions but quite a few people have asked so I won’t be able to include everyone. I’m making a list and will contact you all in a little while. Will add you on. Lovely to hear you enjoyed it. Thank you.” đŸ™‚
No worries đŸ™‚ I have more than enough to keep me out of mischief.
Thanks for the prompt response.
This is great, there is so much to read on the web, that actually it is really nice to stop and read something like a magazine. Great idea – well done!
Thanks Anna. It was fun to do, if a little time consuming.
It looks really good, Kat… I’m not sure I see the need for it, though, when your blog can already the content that’s covered there. Can you explain the advantages to me?
Good question Paul. I started the newsletter so that people who find it hard to keep up with their email inboxes, could keep in touch with ‘Travel With Kat’ without the need to get an email every time I post. The magazine is an extension of that. Plus there are also a few things I probably wouldn’t write about on my blog that come under the news section.
The magazine, I hope, is something people will leisurely read on a Sunday afternoon plus the Joomag platform opens up ‘Travel With Kat’ to new readers.
It looks great Kat – really well done!

I absolutely love it Kat! I only wish I could print off a copy and read it on my flight to Cuba! Since my lonely planet magazine subscription ran out, I’ve been looking for a great new travel mag to read and I think I may have just found it! đŸ™‚ thank you so much for featuring me in it!
Thanks Shikha. You should be able to print it off or download a PDF if you look at it on a PC rather than an iPad or mobile. Have a really brilliant time! Looking forward to hearing all about it.
What a great idea. Always enjoy your trips with the photos and comments. Keep it up and look forward to the next one in October.
Thanks Lexa. How did I miss the fact that you have a blog? I’m off to look at some Sardinian Wedding Rings.!
Hi Kat, what a great idea and I think your content as always is gorgeous. I did go to the site and it is quite possible it is just a learning curve but it seem very difficult to get the magazine to open to full screen and stay there. At which point you lose the page turning ability which is very cool. But what a very cool idea. Tim
Thanks for letting me know Tim. Sorry to hear you had trouble. I’ve never had the problem you describe. Would be really useful to know what you were looking on – a mobile, iPad or laptop etc. It works differently on each. Also did you have a good internet connection?
I was on my laptop with a good connection, I think. What happens is, when you enlarge the magazine to full screen you lose the page turn feature but can click on the arrow to go forward or back. At that point it would not stay still and every time I touched the mouse the whole magazine would move. This made it difficult to read. I will go back in and play around. To be honest it is probably just me.
The page turning should still work but I don’t think its anything you were doing. Just sounds like it was having some sort of big wobbly!?! Thanks again for letting me know and if you do try again, an update would be really appreciated.
Fabulous! I wish you every success with this đŸ™‚
Thank you Sue. You are always so supportive, especially on Twitter and G+, and I really do appreciate it.
