Since I started ‘Travel with Kat’ last September, with just a few exceptions, I’ve rarely written about the area I live in. With so many beautiful places nearby this seems a shame so here is my first post dedicated to the beautiful county I call home in the West Sussex.
I was born and still live on the south coast of England and apart from the three years I spent living in Bristol while at university, I’ve always lived close to the sea. When I was young (and the weather permitted), my sister and I spent the summer holidays on the beach. I recently took full advantage of the sunny weather and walked along the beach ending up at a lovely little café, The Lobster Pot.
The sea which is sometimes rather gray was a beautiful shade of blue and the view from the café was particularly lovely with a group of yachts sailing past.
Although I’ve visited The Lobster Pot several times before I’d never had more than a cup of coffee but seeing as it was lunchtime we decided to have a meal. Boy was it good! I had a home-made lamb and mint burger while Neill had the typically English, fish and chips – and it was one of the largest pieces of battered fish I’d ever seen. My burger was seriously tasty, served with some lovely homemade coleslaw and the chips were just how I like them – chunky, fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. The prices were a little more than you would pay in some places in the area, with our meals costing just under £9 each but the quality was superb. The portions were too big for either of us to finish which does seem a shame. I have noticed some places lately offering smaller portions for a cheaper price and I do wish more restaurants would take-up this initiative.
Apart from the food being delicious the service here was also superb. All the staff, and there were plenty of them, were extremely friendly and polite plus we didn’t have to wait long either to place our order or for the food to arrive. Sadly we were way too full to try one of the many tempting homemade cakes on offer… we’ll just have to pop back again another day.

Hi, Just found your site after looking for places to visit and see in Sussex. I live and work in East Sussex and love, like yourself being by the sea. I’m aiming to bring my two children up by the sea. I think i might check out the cafe food sounds lovely!
Try the delicious cakes at The Lobster Pot – they did elderflower cake – has a subtle but awesome taste and Parsnip cake – amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I shall be going down there hopefully over next few days when i visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Will do. Although parsnip cake sounds very strange and wouldn’t be my first choice I might just have to try it for that very reason. 🙂
Hi Abu, This area actually gets more sunshine hours than anywhere else along the south coast of England and yes, grey weather does make you appreciate sunny days all the more.
looks like a great day for a walk… i think the grey weather otherwise (seattle is very similar most of the year) makes the summer and summery days all the more special 🙂
Gee, I saw lobster and thought you lived across the state line in Maine. So it’s Old England instead of New England, but tasty all the same!
(Now, for those oysters?)
Yes, I’m across the pond and afraid no actual lobsters involved (or oysters for that matter) but as you say tasty none the less. 🙂
Looks wonderful and it sounds like I need to do some training so I can fit in dessert. Let’s see if I’m up to the challenge.
Training! Now there’s a good idea. 🙂
Reblogged this on Not So Well Known Cafe Around the World.
Thanks for reblogging this. Must check out some of your other cafés from around the world…. sounds great!
The food looks and sounds wonderful – hungry now!
I could just polish off that slice of home-made cake right now!

Thanks for making me laugh ‘little big sis’. I can almost hear you singing this now. 😀
Looks like my kind of place Kat. I only ever visited that part of the world once and quite briefly.
Hi Jo, Hope you make it back here again one day. 🙂
