I recently wrote an article for 101 Holidays on the Best Travel Blogs to Follow in 2013. My aim was to gather together a collection of great blogs, from independent travel bloggers, covering a wide range of tastes and interests, something for everyone I hope. Most of them are relatively ‘young’ blogs and not as well-known as I think they deserve to be.

With so many new blogs being launched every day I hope this will give you a heads up on some that are worth following in 2013. Please do pop over to 101 Holidays and check it out.

The list was limited to just 15 blogs and there are many more that I personally will be following next year and here’s a link to my expanded Best Travel Blogs list.

And don’t forget my regular column for 101 Holidays about the best travel posts each month. If you see a travel story or photograph, from an independent blogger that you are particularly impressed with, please do let me know by commenting here or on facebook or by tweeting me @TravelWithKat using the hash tag #besttravelposts (and, yes, you are allowed to nominate your own!)

Travel Planning Resources

Travel clothes for women

Check out my guide to all my favourite travel clothes for women.

Book your hotel

Agoda is my preferred hotel search engine. I also use Airbnb ($31 discount) for booking rooms/apartments.

Rent a car

Discover Car Hire is a great site for comparing car prices to find the best deal. They search both local and international rental companies.

Book an experience

When I’m travelling solo, especially to a new city, I use Viator and Get Your Guide to book tours and excursions, in particular, food walking tours or to visit somewhere tricky to get to by public transport.

Protect yourself and your trip

Don’t forget travel insurance! Protect yourself from possible injury, theft, and many other unexpected mishaps while abroad. World Nomads provides travel insurance to travellers from over 140 countries. For UK residence, Alianz Assistance offers insurance for backpackers, as well as annual multi-trip cover and single-trip cover starting from £3.36.
